Don't format on keypress. Ideally, give the user feedback on their input while they type, and disable saving until the field is correctly formatted. If you must have automated formatting, do it on blur instead.

I think my comment has been validated by the dozens of comments here complaining about broken inputs. I didn't say it was impossible; the basic trick only works in simple cases and the edge cases are numerous. If I implement a feature

I have to deal with exactly this issue at work on a project that emulates spreadsheet behavior for number formatting. I learned immediately that you have to format on blur, because anything you do to the input value while the user is typing

Your original comment did not say that you prefer personal interactions. You presented a bunch of your opinions about the effectiveness of in-person communication as if they were facts. Several more times in this thread you've written

I don't understand your point. I worked remotely for ten years and there was constant banter in the slack (skype before that) channels. We would spend as much time socializing as we would if we were in the office. I won't make any

Last time I paid attention drop shadows were extremely expensive to render, and using too many of them would severely reduce the framerate when scrolling and animating elements. I stopped using them partly because of that, and partly becaus

One of the plot points in Neal Stephenson's Seveneves [minor spoiler alert] is an Elon Musk-type character that melts a nuclear reactor into an ice comet to make a thruster that uses the comet as fuel. I always thought that was really

Wow, I looked at it and was just about to come back here and bash non-functional science fiction design, but it's actually completely usable and every element is displaying relevant data.

If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say the fact that it's a landing page with very little information and a newsletter sign up form has caused some people to flag it. I doubt it's a moderator action.

This is a point that has been mentioned in many of the articles on this subject lately, and one of the research programs I read about is measuring exactly this. They took a bunch of volunteers and counted the number of bugs on their windshi

I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not, but I think we all know that "ask an engineer" means "ask a male engineer" 99% of the time. Edit: I was just guessing at the ratio of male to female engineers, so

I guess I can concede that. If you can compose an algorithm using a flow-based visual programming language I suppose you can consider a series of selectors an algorithm for applying styles, but by that logic every selector is an algorithm.

I learned a lot of CSS early in my career by experimentation, but everything that has been added to the language since css 3 I have learned from MDN, CSS Tricks[0], and the autocomplete in chrome dev tools. [0] https://css-tricks

Algorithm? I see a design process but using the word algorithm to describe a CSS layout is a bit baffling to me. It's like creating a library of json snippets and calling it a json algorithm.
