I think a lot of people use the upvote to bookmark a link. The favorite feature was rolled out much later and I've always used votes for that purpose.

Did you even read the comment? A change in firebase pricing increased the cost by almost an order of magnitude. I don't know how it affected the upper tiers but if you imagine a larger startup with much higher traffic, an unexpected pr

This runs counter to my experience. I've found that TS will confirm to any style of programming you prefer to use. If you want to avoid classes and inheritance, just type your functions and data structures and call it a day.

That's exactly my point. Ideally, you should take a competitive salary. If you have to take some kind of alternative compensation because you believe in the mission or whatever, most startups aren't profitable even at IPO/aqu

It's doubly self sabotaging because some of the most talented juniors and mid-level engineers I've worked with are the types that will say "oh, I can only do half of those things, I probably can't get that job anyway&quo

How many new companies are profitable, and if they are, why would you want to work for a new company that isn't plowing all of its profits back into research, product development, and growth?

Revenue, maybe. Profit? I don't have any control over how you define profit, and you have an enormous amount of control over how you manage your revenue. Additionally, even a unicorn is going to stay in the red for years. Unless you ha

Maybe not grandma, but Bob the accountant could install pihole or tor. If only a small fraction of non technical people start using privacy focused software, it would be a big win for the open internet.

It says something about the industry when "only" a $30.9M annual burn rate sounds small.

Is that why? I thought I was buying iphones for the high quality, end-to-end user experience design, ecosystem integration, strict standards for third party apps, long-lasting hardware, and high resale value. Now I feel so silly.

Yes, one of my daily drivers is an ergodox ez. Using thumb keys to change layers is a total game changer, but I also use this technique on my nyquist.

Good points. I mostly use split keyboards to solve the arm problem, and there are staggered column layouts like the ergodox and friends that solve the finger problem (I'm typing on one now). And no, the staggering isn't for ergono

The primary differences are 1. proper finger position and technique (mind your Ps and Qs); 2. better touch typing accuracy (see 1). Speed is probably roughly the same but with less backspacing. The staggered layout is weird ; it's not
