(ps: my other favorite thing about that chart is the frametimes getting worse as processor frequency increases. The 8600k and 9600k are literally the exact same silicon, same cache, same core count. So a pair of processors both lost f

Prime95 also completely ignores the high-clock domain btw so it can also be completely prime95 stable yet fail completely on a routine task that boosts up! So it’s technically not even a full test of core stability either.

You’re not reading it wrong, that’s really what they’re asserting. GN is saying that it is an active problem resulting in the failures. GN is sometimes really good and sometimes really bad. They do tons of great data-driven benchmarking and

Yeah I think that’s the bright spot, now that there’s a branded offering for server-flavored Ryzen now maybe there is a permanent justification for doing proper validation. I just feel vindicated lol, it always comes up that “well works fin

Specifically I think the concerns are around idle voltage and overshoot at this point, which is indeed something configured by OEMs. edit: BZ just put out a video talking about running Minecraft servers destroying CPUs reliably, topping out

it’s also a terrible stability test these days for the same reasons Wendell talks about with cinebench in his video with Ian (and Ian agrees too). Doesn’t work like 90% of the chip - it’s purely a cache/avx benchmark. You can have a co

Alderon are the people claiming 100% of units fail which doesn’t seem supported by anyone else either. Wendell and GN seem to have scoped the issue to around 10-25% across multiple different sources. Like they are the most extreme claimants

wendell level1techs has been talking about how microsoft is specifically moving away from it in Windows on ARM (to some real short-term pain, in fact) so it seems self-serving to assert that they somehow cannot do it because of the EU. if
