Wil Shipley also tweeted his progress at getting his barcode stuff working on the iPhone - from what I recall he claimed success, but said it probably wasn't good enough for productization. The 3G camera truly sucks for macro work (though t

You make an interesting comment about the larger brokers. In my area there is one that is, relatively speaking, bigger than the other 'big fish', but there are probably three or four "significant" brokerages, and a lot of smaller ones too.

I'm curious to know if Ryan has spoken to any of the local (I live in the same town) agents about the lock-in to see what they think? I don't know a huge amount about the industry, but it has some interesting dynamics. There are a handful o

For those of you attending one of the iPhone Tech Tour stops (if it hasn't already occurred): get the UDIDs of Apple folks' phones while you're there. I know I'll be doing that (or dying trying) in Toronto on the 3rd.

There are patents involved, maybe the licensing costs were too high? I've been asked to work on something similar, but my lazy/distracted ass hasn't gotten around to it yet.

Once upon a time Symantec (in the era of "Visual Cafe") had something akin to a radio program, complete with "DJ", who basically did a routine modeled on morning radio, complete with "updated traffic reports" that told you the current hold

About a decade ago a group of contract software developers (of which I was one) decided to figure out how many seconds it took each of us to earn a cup of coffee (working for a bank, nothing was free!). For the person who earned their coffe

My understanding, from a contact within Apple, is that the reviewers are indeed Apple FTEs. It wasn't clear if they were somewhere on the main campus or in one of the satellite buildings, but I was led to believe they are in Cupertino. Cert

This is true... today. Lots of utilities are already starting to install smart meters. Unless Wattvision is able to build a large installed base in the next 2-3 years, their technology won't have meters to attach to (or they'll be doing a n
