I don’t block ads. I like buying things. I go to work and make money. I’m going to spend some of it on stuff that looks nice and seems fun. Ads are a good way (not the only good way) to find out about new things to buy.

I think it is the same thing. It’s a tool that if you don’t adopt then you’re likely to struggle professionally.

How would you feel for a secretary who refused to use a typewriter or an accountant who didn’t want to use a spreadsheet? Times change. You’re just sad the times changed for you in a way you didn’t like.

Isn’t max unemployment in California like $450/week? It’s not nothing but it’s not gonna help much if you’re used to spending like a big tech engineer.

It’s not subpar, it’s just different. I find it to be relaxing to be productive on my iPad for a lot of work tasks. Why would I want to touch a computer when I’m at home when I can use my iPad? Computers aren’t relaxing or fun to use.

> not productivity/coding! You don’t think a non-artist, non-coder can be productive on an iPad? Some jobs are heavily writing, reading, email/messaging, meetings, etc. Feel link those people can do quite well with an iPad, no?

Many decisions aren’t. Nobody says “I don’t like potatoes” because they want to look like a noble good guy. Many people say, “I don’t like ads” because they want to look like a noble good guy.

> It feels like the system is optimized to filter people out, not to find the best ones. It feels that way because it is that way. Why would someone want to find the best person when most jobs don’t require the best person?

Generally not worth my time, energy, and effort. Why do I care if somebody believes a lie? I believe a ton of lies and I’m doing just fine.

But if you reward loyalty over skill then don’t expect skill to stick around. Some people have 5 years of experience and some people have 1 year of experience 5 times.
