I also miss the old Google. I think it's a mistake to blame this on ads though. I don't believe that the G+ crusade is being driving by advertising (though I'm sure it looks that way to people who assume that everything is about ads).

I find these logistical details strangely fascinating. Still, I'm having a hard time believing that the iPad3 will account for enough of the shipping traffic (they aren't that big!) to have such major impact on rates.

That's not entirely true. A lot of very talented people are being wasted at bad jobs. In many cases, they don't even realize it because one of the features of a bad job is that it will often make you feel bad about yourself (as with other t

The story was about revenue: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=689712 It's hard to believe that a fb board member could make more accurate revenue predictions than random people with strong opinions commenting on HN ;)

That's not a list of top shareholders (despite the headline). I think they only need to report the holdings of officers, directors, and anyone with more than 5%. Sean Parker does not fall into any of those categories, so they don't report h

Big success takes longer to be visible since early acquisitions are typically small. I think weatherbill is doing very well, and there are quite a few promising yc companies started by former Googlers (such as optimizely). And of course 2/3

I mean "misleading" as in "leading in the wrong direction", such as "have you considered doing X?", where X is something that I think is a bad idea. If they agree with every I idea I have, then they will even agree with bad ideas, and won't

The purpose of the interview is to find people who will make good founders. It is not a salon for intellectuals to sit around and be "comfortable debating and discussing ideas in an extremely logical and thoughtful way". It's closer to a bo

Public stocks and the like are heavily regulated. If we let random people invest in startups, a bunch of people would get scammed out of their money, then there would be calls for more regulation to protect investors, which would only serve

I don't recommend angel investing for anyone who can't afford to lose a fairly substantial amount of money, which pretty much excludes anyone who isn't already an accredited investor. Finding the next Facebook or Google is a lot harder than

Misleading headline. At the moment, LinkedIn is down 2.78%, the dow is down 2.11%, and Google is down 2.54%, not a huge difference. This headline could be "Google Shares Tumble After LinkedIn Lockup Expires" and it would be just as accurate

This is good. I've considered doing something like this and making it part of a daily process -- at the end of every day, any email that I haven't dealt with gets a NACK, and every day starts fresh. Email is a disaster because it lacks flow

This is a good example of why Google became a great company: they understood the big picture. Zynga apparently does not.
