Kudos to the Parse team for many things, including a much more decent exit than many others. But aside all my admiration for all their achievements - all beyond my abilities - let me ask you, hackers of the world, is this what we really wan

Interesting discussion, but I would postulate that people on HN are typically the ones who wouldn't appreciate - or even understand - such a service. Also, if you are fixated on the details, e.g. "do I need this to reserve a fligh

I agree with you, but this is a really bad advice for most people reading this. Billing by value - as a consultant/freelancer - will get you in endless discussions about what value actually is and you will have problems estimating the

Good list, but I guess it's quite universal, not for women only. But anyway, keep up the good work and keep women in tech! :)

"the current system will destroy science" I'm uncertain about this. The scientific method can luckily not be destroyed, and I wonder whether the self-destruction of academia is a good or bad thing. It is certainly not painles

But let's not forget that a significant proportion of stakeholders have no interest in changing the system. The same "broken" system is actually a way to provide hidden subsidies for industry, decrease unemployment (in many c

Why doesn't Y-combinator have such, I always wondered. Small bedrooms and small offices, I mean. It would save a lot of money for startups and it would also let them mingle a lot, maybe too much :)

Think again: the _first_ valuation of your company - that is not even incorporated - is 1.7 million and you keep 93%. If you know about a better deal then please let us know! :)

Maybe. But my first thought was the opposite, i.e. does the government _not_ want Facebook to provide free Internet for some reason?

No, in the long term it isn't. In the short term there may be all kinds of deficit, but they will eventually disappear. It has also been a great source of self-esteem for me, the fact that I left home without a penny.

Wisdom and happiness are often boring (try reading the meditations of Marcus Aurelius, I loved it but occasionally yawned). "Success" at any cost, extremes, pain, murder, 168 hour code sprints are more thrilling.

I can imagine that GE has big plans for improving services like condition monitoring for jet engines where they would sell monitoring data etc. If a competing startup tries to compete they have ammunition.
