A lot can be said about the technical details but in the end a 20mpix ultrasharp well focused ugly picture is still an ugly picture. Good photographers capture emotion and use good composition. That's why it's important for them t

This sounds similar to a post of a blind programmer. Those are good arguments for privacy. Sometimes you got something to hide. Not a crime but because you don't want to be discriminated. Sad that it has to be this way.

3D software is also very complex. And I wish more complex programs used the window system of Blender. Just arrange your windows and for each window choose a window type you want to see. And ofcourse the ability to save this. I think this is

When we talk about innovation today we mostly think about computers. But Xerox PARC operated on a new domain. I think we will see new canvases in the future, but maybe not in computing. Maybe we will see the rise of new materials, new ways

Serious: find another job. I think burnout happens when you put your standards higher than you can achieve. But there are different kind of standards. * You can burnout when you work harder than you can (physically and emotionally). * You c

I think the main reason is good software design. It's so modular that it's very easy to extend. A new fluid sim algorithm? A few months later Blender is shipping it. That's also the reason it's fast. It starts in one or

Fun fact: Steve Jobs was very much inspired by Sony's innovations. Another 'fun' fact. Sony is the only big company that is going to support Sailfish OS on their smartphones later this year. They are not afraid to try new stu

What I don't get is why they just arent using a stripped down version of Visual Studio for this. But maybe VSC is more like a test product for Microsoft to see how development in Javascript works out.

This looks like a fun project indeed! Unfortunately every time I read something about minifiers I got the feeling that people are optimizing the wrong problem. If you gzip data over the line it's already compressed. So minifying your s

A lot of people use some kind of drugs to get creative, but as the article points out: you can train this by learning to set aside thoughts that block the creative process (simple thoughts like: "this is probably not possible"). A

Comparing for equality is not tricky because it works: 3.1415927410125732421875 equals 3.1415927410125732421875 The problem is that programmers expect the float to be a decimal (smaller than the float) or integer. For example if you want to

I think false conclusions are the problem. For example: "Trump approved an oil pipe.". This is no fake news. But the conclusion most outlets made was: "See, Trump is working with the Russians because it's Russian steel.&

I'm not sure this is true. The shadow ray pass is used to determine how much light is returned to the pixel. So something like: * shoot a ray from the pixel * when the ray hits an object check how much light that point receives * bounc

I think path tracing is just a form of ray tracing. The only difference is that you continue another path at a point where the ray hits an object and collect all the light energy back to the pixel.

I also agree. Learning a new language by building a raytracer is a lot of fun. What also helps a lot is that you can use only spheres to create a Cornell box (use very large spheres for the walls). And ray-sphere intersection is 'easy&
