I think this article is a great read... but just as he calls success in startups binary, so is the definition of what a startup actually is. Some aren't looking for that payoff in the end, and the lear jet. Some people simply just want to

Another one of his mysteries I suppose... but I DID learn that while watching a TBS 2001/2010 marathon in like 1996. Ted Turner has never steered me wrong before.

This is actually a great question. I've been toying around with the idea of having a personal blog, but when I look around at most personal blogs, they've been updated like three times since the new year, just talked about some conference t

Yeah, I'm new to web development and I'm 26... I started reading about php/mysql in January, and began developing my first application in February, and I'm about a month away from being able to launch it. I didn't start from scratch though

I don't have any mind-blowing scientific proof to quote, though I am a trivia and wikipedia junky. Just the other day I was watching my dog 'dig a hole' inside my house and attempt to bury one of his toys. The problem was that he wasn't ac

This is very true -- I always have an amazing tendency to talk faster than normal when presenting, and I find that taking the time to calm yourself before talking is effective. But you can always seem to catch people's eccentricities too;

It's much too tantalizing sometimes to think that this next feature idea will resonate with your users; before you know it, your subnavs are completely packed, and you're not even sure what you want your users to do anymore. Adopting the mi

Just finished listening... this clip is worth the time, a lot of good stuff in here. I just wish they touched more on how the Google acquisition unfolded, rather than the "we met some people, yadda yadda" approach. But I'm guessing they'r

Now that MySpace is owned by MegaCorp, it feels like it has assumed the role of 'cash cow' in their product matrix. Not much innovation has come out of MS in awhile (some would argue ever). I may be a disaffected Gen-Y'er, but cmon now, i

Just a quick thought: does YC provide any presentation coaching before DD? I can't think of one topic that sends people into fits faster than public speaking! IMO, it's a skill that should be practiced as much as possible, but real opportun

Let me suggest a new strategy -- copy someone else's idea, make it seem like you're totally legit, and THEN partner with them :). Maybe you could start a new search engine and just partner with Google: "Yo, Larry & Serg, we SO need t
