Criminal charges can end in fines and no jail time. Prosecutors can negotiate plea deals (including fines) to avoid going to court. I don't know enough to comment on if this is something that happens often (it certainly doesn't fe

Ive been looking for a library that can find the best set of selectors to most consistently find the element youre looking for in a page. Any pointers to something that exists? Interestingly I've also found very little for dom extracti

I really hate the use of 'survivorship bias' these days. It makes it seem like everything is just happenstance and nothing is consequential. Ask someone who uses the term, "what would be the indicator, this wasn't just s

There will always be just a few leaders. This feels similar to lauding 500 CEOs for the success of the US S&P -- it's missing a ton of the picture as the organizations they ran and the teams were massive. To be fair, most of this l

I love vim, but I can no longer see the case for pure-vim (besides devops/infra work where the most basic vim setup is usually enough) in the world of IDEs + Vim mode. Ive been down the rabbit hole of setting vim’s code intelligence up

Am I the only one that'd rather we fix the vulnerabilities with SMS verification instead of killing it? The cross platform password manager + OTP (and sidecaring OTP with your passwords is sketchy to begin with) UX is just terrible. Ad

Youre right. Redis will persist either the AOF or log but your whole dataset must fit in memory (the AOF file is used to fill existing memory on boot).

Don't get too alarmed by this. It's how a good portion scientific progress in America has always worked (especially if the project needs military scale funding). The tech eventually makes it out to civilian space.

Yes! We have it implemented via JS in the Synth browser (click the snippet and jump to the actual content) will add support for `t=` strategy you mentioned for other browsers.

it depends what "created_at" means, if it means "persisted_at" then they're also a bit different because these sorts of UUIDs are generated before being persisted (often long before for offline-and sync systems).

I was wondering earlier how useful deno's all-or-nothing policies would actually be in the real world. It seems like rules like this (no dep network requests, intranet only, only these ips) are much more useful than "never talk to

Great write up and congrats on the results. I think one of my takeaways from this is also how well rounded Clickhouse is. That fact that it is also so performant against timeseries datasets + databases is very surprising.
