Have you actually read the PHP documentation page for nl2br? People are absolutely using it that way and not making any remark about safety or security. As an anecdote, when I started using PHP, I began to use nl2br to change the newlines i

No, there are a lot of shortcuts and beautiful one-liners in Python. However, Pythonic code always focuses on being the simplest and cleanest as opposed to being the shortest. I suspect it's the author's way of imposing some good python co

I completely agree with this approach as the most obvious and simple way to get involved. For some alternatives, I recommend you stop by the IRC channels of some of the projects you want to work on (like Mozillas) and keep track of the disc

That's fine, but then you do pruning of the elements you don't need. It's a lot easier to prune than to create every single time. I think the overhead added by Bootstrap is easily covered in the amount of boilerplate coding you get to skip.

Wait, did you make the other browsers your default before running the tests? I was under the impression that IE is the only first-class browser and the other browsers would work as third-party apps with limitations on things like the amount

Still though, you are comparing your experience to the whole of all programmers. Engineering itself has the characteristics of 'art'. There is still an unknown aspect to designing and developing a product even if you use a schematic or have

If you go to the gym and it hurts, you should STOP Woah, hold on. Are you telling me that when my arms get sore from lifting or pressing, I should just stop? There's something to be said about incrementally getting better, but the pain is

You don't need to, but you should be able to recall them quickly when a problem starts to look like something already solved. There are a lot of developers who rewrite everything or whose lack of familiarity with the ins and outs of their l

It's all about figuring out how to combine knowledge to get an answer. Which is also what you use a relational database for so I don't see how you can do one and not the other. Which is exactly my point, again. It's not that I can't do bo

Well, if you know how to solve the problems I mentioned, you would be aware that they have nothing to do with knowing the sizes of things. To solve these problems, you must think practically and state assumptions about how much you expect t

You're missing the point. If you ask someone a question that expects them to think in a way foreign to them, it does not say anything about their intelligence if they have difficulty approaching it. Think of the old "analytical" thinking qu

No, I agree with this. There was obviously nothing wrong eugenics movement 100 years ago. And obviously minorities get arrested more, have lower income, and a lot of children because of their extremely low IQ as opposed other social forces.

I agree with this as well by the way. But you can't throw in an "interesting notion" theoretical to solve this problem. What Apple and Android devices have is not only a developer ecosystem and a better application suite, along with good ma

Ok, but AndroidOS didn't copy iOS for mobile so that's not what we're talking about. If we're talking about OSes only, then I agree, there's nothing wrong with either of those phones or really the blackberry themselves. They all have functi

I might argue that when you're that far behind, it isn't unreasonable to make the quarterly goal to "catch-up" and then finally to "exceed". These are not mutually exclusive goals, they are just situation relative.

I've never heard of this service before but it looks quite interesting. I wonder though, how feasible is something like this for paying membership dues in a small club, for example? Is there some other service does this a lot better?
