What are you going to do with that? Keep returning errors until the calling function gets the error? That's what exceptions do for you. Do you have any guarantee that there is no bug in the error-handling code somewhere ? And what wil

That should be cleanly handled in a language like Python and others, where the context managers clean up the resources when exiting a scope, normally or after an exception. It's like stack unwinding is a new concept or something.

Computing resources were scarce, which made us better code-writers. We had to think about this. Scarcity leads to efficiency. Abundance leads to complacency. The new generation just assumes that all database/network calls and UI plum

In most of my code, exception handling happens in one file, one function. You throw an exception, and you let it propagate until it is handled. Why is this so hard?

Never understood this. I've been doing coding for a quarter century. There is a reason we moved away from manual error handling to exceptions. It's easier to reason about, it's less code, it's better. The Go fans keep

Good man/woman :) I understand that some people just need a job to pay rent, and we all need to be a little selfish, making decisions that are right for us , but tech employees have a choice. You can afford to not work for a sector of

Typical Web 3.0 bullshit. Bold claims of freedom and fairness, but you dig deeper, and it's garbage all the way down. It's libertarian anarchy "paradise".

So one camp says "just jump in and code", the other one advises to go full waterfall and write books of documentation. Yet again, the new generation is making the same mistakes us fossils learned from years ago. You will be shocke

I once got excited about ExtJS, the way it created a desktop-like experience in the browser, and I said to myself, "I will learn this, all of it, I will become an expert. Tips and tricks, best practices, the works". After six mont

That's why I have a problem with someone else managing my money (outside of direct fund managers, of course, who take a fixed percentage fee and are incentivized to have the fund grow, not to fleece me). https://www.youtube.

There should really be a surplus of software developers. Most companies are solving problems they don't have, employing a team of 10x more developers than they need - because of course microservices, Kafka, Kubernetes, you name it - ca

The value of Maps is in user information. They know what you look for, they know where you've been. They can extrapolate what you are doing and what you will do. This all helps in fine-tuning your marketing target profile, and servin
