You didn't have an exercise in building compilers using yacc/bison or similar, generating assembler code? It was a required exercise on my university (uni. of tech. Vienna). Though it was the only time when I wrote assembler (and

Well, I guess would only use the Rift if there are open source Linux drivers in the mainline kernel. I guess such drivers would only land in mainline if they are technologically and morally ok (then the driver is really just a 3D display dr

When it comes to SQL standard support my bet is always on SQLite before MySQL (except for any multi user/role stuff, of course).

That was my experience with Knoppix around 2001. Sound did just work (starting at early boot stages!). Then came PA and messed it all up.

Which would be a new feature. For me it only ever caused troubles (sound errors and huge latency and you can't get rid of it in Fedora). The only useful thing about it is that you can control the volume of each program even if the prog

I don't quite understand the use of it. iPython Notebooks I get. They really give you something you don't get in a terminal widow, but I take my yakuake everyday before a web based terminal. It integrates better in the desktop env

Televisions have upscale algorithms. But nothing like this. But they don't need anything like this because they don't scale pixle art with sharp borders and very low resolution. They scale video footage (which one could say is &qu

The Super Mario and Secret of Mana stuff works quite good, except it changes the facial expression on "Peach 2". I'd like to see Donkey Kong Country 1/2/3, Megaman (NES and SNES) and Chrono Trigger processed by this

Is there no 8x or 16x version of hq4x? I thought you can use it to get full HD resolution from 320x240 (in realtime using GLSL shader).

As you say: It depends. E.g. the sword looks better with hq4x, because the result isn't rounded.

The language choice as such does not matter much, but there are different libraries available for both languages. So you should choose the language that best suits your needs. E.g. statistic/scientific stuff: Python. Web: Ruby. (My per

I don't think there is something inherent to either language that makes it more or less suited to sys admin tasks. Python just happens to be used more often for this. Many Linux sys admin tools (GUI and non-GUI) are written in Python (

We don't have (good/proven) theories that predict an asymmetry between matter and antimatter, but we already did experiments that did confirm that there is an asymmetry. Of course these experiments do not involve black holes. See
