Interesting. What's the rationale for that?

Well, that is not good enough. How can you proof that already read (audited) code wasn't tampered afterwards by a hacker? If you don't use cryptographic hashes you can't.

I think there is a much more important feature in git for OpenBSD: cryptographic hashes of all commits that depend on the parent commit (=> cryptographically hashed history). Combine that with commit signing and detecting tampering gets

Well, I don't know about that, but it is law that services over a certain size have to have a lawful intercept interface (e.g. Skype has one) and it is know that this interface gets abused by secret services.

It probably has its own intermediate proxy with a "lawful" intercept interface (i.e. pies everything to the NSA). Well, I wouldn't be surprised if that conspiracy theory would be true.

Yeah, but I guess it's because they come from Windows and don't know what the best compression algorithm supported by every Linux distribution of today is. They just know everyone can unpack zip and its good enough. Heck I would h

I turned the compositor off and set the graphic cards profile to "performance" (was "auto") before I started the demo. For some reason I get tearing in videos (mplayer or vlc - no matter which output module) when I don&#

Tried the cave demo: had quite some tearing for me. Is there a vsync option? I tried -vsync but it didn't change anything. PS: I've a GeForce GTX 760 (driver version 331.79), 16GB RAM, Intel i7 quad core (8 threads) with 3.50GHz o

Yeah but for Linux desktops? You can safely assume that a modern Linux desktop installation is 64bit these days. (Actually for years.)

Last time I used KUbuntu it was pretty much horrible. (E.g. only 6 month maintained and after that the repo did go offline so my installed system was broken (couldn't even install old pkgs from the DVD because of dependencies)). But th

Actually click-to-play is what made YouTube usable to me. Now it is broken and I had to write a user script to fix it. When I brows YouTube and search for something, I want to open several search results/related videos in background ta

The assumptions with inlineing virtual functions seem flawed to me. What if the program loads a plugin that defines (and returns an instance of) a class that overloads said function?

E.g. on iOS and Android you get access to the system's SQLite library and apparently can't even opt-out (because it is used by system APIs that you will use, if I understand correctly). See: https://news.ycombinator.com
