Most of the "bad design decisions" that were lampooned in the project were more religious preferences than obvious missteps. It's sort of like a vi user creating emacs as a joke, and then people picking up this emacs and going "hey i can ac

A few qualms I have after attempting to use it as my default for a while: - the layout and font of the results page really bugs me. Century Gothic and Trebuchet are a lot harder to read than Helvetica/Arial, and it just looks goofy for som

Ehmm. For this thought to make sense, all your windows would have to be text only, one line that you always want to read and doesn't wrap, with no other way to dismiss except the close button, and with your cursor always following along wi

Had to laugh at this: "Since $ has become the coolest way to do completely non-standard lookups in an almost indecipherable way"... It is true that this has practically become a meme amongst the JavaScript libraries. (did jQuery start the

And therein lies the insanity that is a BOM: it's a character that's meant to be invisible, even to your UTF-8 capable text editor. With this in mind, it's not clear what is supposed to be able to view or edit this character, short of a

Anything running over Ethernet has packets with checksums. Yes, noise will cause packets to drop, and that results in lower overall throughput, while connectivity still remains possible. The signal running over HDMI is not packet-based. Y

Yep, this issue bit me. There's no real fix, but to keep sshfs working you can grab the Leopard static binary: http://code.google.com/p/macfuse/wiki/MACFUSE_FS_SSHFS and mount your volumes from the command line. This has happened before;

I never liked the idea of putting passwords into URLs... it just gives people the wrong idea about how they should handle their password. To me, URLs and passwords are orthogonal. One says "this is where it is", the other says "let me in p

There are ways to use goto effectively... in fact, the other day I was working with an awkwardly nested try/catch that would have read much clearer as a goto (and more efficiently; an empty Exception was being used to trigger the catch). I'

With individual meters you can usually find a spot between two meters, or on the border of a fire hydrant zone, where other cars cover all the meters and you get a free spot. The nebulous sphere of influence of the per-block meters compels

The sample Themeroller themes look goofy for a few reasons: 1. they all seem to be catered to show off the glassy/noisy textures 2. they all use the more ugly fonts. Verdana/Arial for great joy. It is in fact possible to use Themeroller to
