Counter argument: selling off products to smaller businesses creates more limited liability. I.e less to lose more to gain by being bad stewards. A bigger company in fear of hurting their brand has incentive to be good.

I think another big mistake was prescription painkillers and that whole story. Get everyone hooked on cheap low grade painkillers, it definitely caused problems but they were manageable if they got more pills. Then there was a huge crackdow

Your attitude to cigarettes sounds awfully similar to what people said about mj 20 years ago. Someone i know actually thinks there’s a link between a crack down on smoking and mass shootings. Just a pet theory, but some folks just need to c

Wait what??? So 1-2 degrees average is enough to be past peak photosynthesis temperatures? And putting black solar panels is going to bring that back into optimal range? I can’t see any of that being close to factual. Crops under panels cou

Good abstraction is the foundation for most of what we do. Bad abstraction is worse than no abstraction. Not everything needs to be abstracted. Ontology is bad abstraction (is a has a stuff). Some people are bad at abstraction and some peo

Having just finished a build, this is very true. New construction methods are amazing. My home had rough in plumbing in a day. Scheduling, inspections, and credentials eat up the most time. Why a plumber can't hook up power to a wate

I'm surprised mention of David Gelertner hasn't come up at all. He is a computer scientist who was attack by Ted kaczynski. He is an interesting person.

I'm starting to see a pattern which basically amounts to corporate shakedowns. I think the trend has only been accelerating since Perdue Parma. They will take the money and never do a thing to clean up the chemicals.

The intention was to get people to read the main thesis critically. That quote is sort of a tell about the quality of this paper, and the more I dig into this paper the more it confirms this is isn't good science.
