There's some pretty cool references here [1] from a former TA of mine. [1] http://fpgacpu.ca/stack/index.html

Without question, Windows has the best debugging facilities. windbg is the best debugger, and when you have source code, visual studio's debugger is super nice. But guess what, windbg has so many commands that it's kind of hard

Windows can do reverse debugging (time traveling debugging) using Nirvana.

I use UndoDB a lot. It's been increadibly helpful for debugging dynamic binary translators, which in my case are x86-to-x86 JIT compilers. I also use it for debugging unit tests for a static binary translator. When I'm unit testin

We ran three versions of our system, because in the last few weeks/days before the quals we had a bunch of regressions. One of those regressions was caused by a single line change in my fuzzer :-p On the twitter account we used to trac

Interestingly, Radamsa is implemented in Scheme, then transpiled to C. Originally I played around with invoke Radamsa as a server (it's normal usage model), but this wasn't ideal because I wanted to use it at varying granularities

I worked on the cyber reasoning system (CRS) at Trail of Bits for our entry into the Cyber Grand Challenge [1]. Some slides describing the system are here [2]. Specifically, I implemented our fuzzer. I created a dynamic binary translator [3

This seems similar to Cocinelle [1], which can perform complex refactorings and bug finding for C code (e.g. the Linux kernel). [1] http://coccinelle.lip6.fr/sp.php

It looks like you need to press very hard. I expect that people's fingers will get tired and stiff. Why not just take a picture of your paper? Ideally, they could just put some special markers on the corners of the page, and then a pho

This. I think a side-benefit is that it lets them evaluate alternatives to x86 on a larger scale, and that if anything, the effort will lead to more portable code.

I feel like this focuses too much on the recognizer than it does on the implementation of the language itself. Sure, given a grammar you can implement a correct parser that accepts only valid inputs. This doesn't really buy you anythin

What you're talking about is binary translation. Here are a few pointers: - DynamoRIO: http://www.dynamorio.org/ - Intel PIN: https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/pin-a-dynamic-binary-
