I always wondered if non-EU students are going to keep coming in the long term too. Only Chinese for example, there are 60k undergrads coming every year. That should be about $1.2B/yr for three years only in tuition fees. It is not tha

I completely misunderstood what he said. I agree with him, I consume most of my news using RSS and even in pages that do not have RSS (like soundcloud) there is a RSS server somewhere serving the feed.

You can get into the EU through Spain but you need some savings (~30.000€). More info here: https://qotoqot.com/blog/best-countries/

That is exactly my point. We can use fluid dynamics and PDEs in waves. We understand some properties and processes. We are nowhere as close in biological system. I put the example of the metabolic pathways because last time checked (~2015)

There is plenty of magic going on. Today we cannot replicate or understand how emergent properties born of biological structures. Not even in "simple" systems as the metabolic pathways.

I want more interactivity with printed terminal output. Similar to copy mode in tmux but with tools of my choice. I can type c-x e to edit input with my $EDITOR. I want at least the same power over the output, like what I have using acme.

I think wine glasses became bigger to let the wine breathe and exposing as much surface as possible to air. Same logic as wine decanters.

I do not think so. I changed from iterm2 to tmux (+ terminal.app/st) for two reasons: (a) Same experience in all machines, Linux or macOS, local or remote (b) You can send keys from one terminal to another, so you can create complex in

I use awk every day because I need state (I work with text files full of sections and subsections) but I am sure that there has to be something better out there. What is the definitive tool to process text? Perl? Haskell? Some Lisp dialect?

I upvoted the replies about computational cost and stability, because they raise an important point. But what I was trying to talk about (as you are) was the presentation of the idea. Linear models are much older than computers, dating back

Also why do linear regression (OLS) models need gradient descent at all? Cannot you calculate the parameters directly? y = X β + ε ...and a few assumptions give you... (X^t X)^-1 y = β* I might be missing something in the blog post.

What I think it works best is following critics (professional or not) that you like and then use an aggregator (like IMDB, RT, Metacritic, etc, etc) to check what they say about a film. Algorithms can only go so far. I use Filmaffinity, the

I was unsure because the blog is two years old. Two years with a typo in the title is quite a bit. Maybe it was some kind of subtle joke that I do not get.

Abstract algebra is an old field so plenty of good options.I would recommend Abstract Algebra by Dummit and Foote. Clear theory, great examples and good writing: http://eu.wiley.com/WileyCDA/WileyTitle/productCd-04

I think in 10-20 years we could see something like an European Union army. Some countries will opt-out (Ireland? Sweden? Austria?) but the main internal opposition (the UK) is not an issue anymore.
