Collections of amusing anecdotes is exactly what they are. Feynman didn’t write the Surely You’re Joking series. They’re stories he told that Ralph Leighton wrote down and collected into books.

Well, it depends on what your use case for "10g" is. If all you care about is fast file transfers between your PC and your NAS, you can get a small 5-8 port 10gb switch for under $300 that will easily handle line-rate traffic (at

Meta requires you to link a personal account to your work identity. Similar to Apple, they don't check to see if it was created just for the purpose.

Google used to compile development builds with clang by default (better tooling and error messages) but production builds with GCC (better optimization). I don't know if they still do that.

People who aren't me get paid to do that kind of math when designing datacenters. Presumably there's a break-even point.

A non-water fire suppression system for a 300,000+ square feet warehouse-scale datacenter would be incredibly expensive.

Halon has been banned for years because 1) it's bad for the ozone layer and 2) it'll kill you. Newer systems (FM-200, Inergen, etc.) fight the fire by removing heat instead of removing oxygen.
