It is also important to consider the complexity too. There is no such thing as "Security through unnecessary complexity", only the opposite. The examples about changing port numbers are great, they are simple configuration changes

What altitude? This is a tradition that started in Persia and still exists in parts of India. I don’t think altitude has much to do with it. There are social issues when the Towers of Silence that used to be away from the population centers

The parallels with interviewing engineers are pretty clear to me, there is so much more information exchanged when interviewer and candidate work together than when the interviewer is confrontational and has a “prove that you’re good enough

Yup! That was the most limited device we ported to. I wasn’t even aware that it was officially shipped. Benefon made nice devices, the Q was really stylish for its time. If memory served they were mostly sold in Eastern Europe and Russia.

I find this hard to believe. Even initialized variables are undefined behavior, I’ve yet to meet a c programmer that hasn’t been bitten by this.

I’ve spoken with my father just once in the last 15 years or so, and that 9 years ago. It happens, not all people are good parents, not all relationships can or should be healed. I doubt I’ll speak to him again before he dies, that could be
