I think Rob Pike didn't mean brilliant as a complete compliment here. It was more an indictment on astronaut engineering of languages rather then engineers. He is literally the designer of Go and likes to program in it.

Asahi Linux has changed that equation for M1/M2 mac minis. I'm sure M4 will be supported soon.

Agreed, my laptop burns a lot of battery on AV1 video and I'd like information on how chips with AV1 decode perform with chrome.

https://arxiv.org/pdf/2206.10257v14 This paper makes a pretty good case that the late Len Sassaman was Satoshi. Its a pretty thorough examination regardless if you think it was Len or not and doesn't come to a def

I wonder what Go would look like if it had generics removed but something like comptime added.

Interesting that TigerBeetle uses Viewstamp Replication over Paxos/Raft. TB says viewstamp replication lends itself to a more performant implementation and doesn't rely on disk storage as much. I'm surprised I'm not seei

I think any replacement for c/c++ will not be strictly safe from memory safety vulnerabilities, but I think both Rust and Zig go far enough to effectively nearly eliminate that entire class of vulns in production software. Rust achieve

Passport cards are legal IDs and don't show your address. Also they avoid you needing a realID higjly recommend. At this rate you'll never need a realID to fly.

I've been enjoying gokrazy. Makes cross compiling and updating my rpi server a breeze. Still an early project though but it works well for my needs.

CoreOS switched attention to K8s over fleet fairly early into fleets life span so it never really had the chance to develop into a seriously used tool. Red Hat killed most things CoreOS did after fleet was dead. Etcd lives on and so does Fe

Agreed, but I still think humans should get a little more credit for winning against AI no matter how. Its a competitive game with very simple and clear rules. A hole in AI strategy is a hole, even if quickly patched! I am still so impresse

Neighborhoods with higher density housing won't be able to charge at home so likely EV stations will be easier than widespread curbside charging in cities.

I've never seen a single control flow hijack PoC from go data races even in a code golf scenario. I've always wondered if this is possible but I don't think it is. Care to share an example?

Data races can lead to logic bugs that are potentially security sensitive, but memory safety generally refers to getting rid of all control flow hijacking security vulnerabilities which, in many large C/C++ projects, seem to be never-e

I got a mazda because I liked their interface design. Owning it for a bit, I agree the software design is horrible. Obnoxious seat-belt warnings while in park is also frustrating.

We don't know that. I think its likely safer to pedestrians then an F150 because the hood is significantly lower. The steel ia irrelevant, trucks don't crumple already for pedestrians, they crumple for other cars.

Regarding multiple classes of memory errors I think. Many languages are memory safe from control flow takeover, rust extends this to data races corrupting data.
