This ignores that Apple is unable to manufacture enough computers per year to be disruptive. 25m Macs in calendar year 2025. Lenovo manufactured 19m PCs in Q4 2025. Apple simply lacks volume.

Apple isn't capable of manufacturing the amount of volume necessary to displace x86/Windows. Apple shipped 25.6 million Macs in 2025. Lenovo shipped 19.3 million PCs in the 4th quarter alone .

You don't want that dream. It's a whole new set of unknown bugs, security issues, lack of essential features, and app compat issues. And the internals of NT are quite good and still largely modern. There's not a lot worth rep

On the desktop, I don't believe Microsoft has had significant competition for quite some time, likely back to Windows 95. In the server space, NT fought really hard against the UNIX giants of the time.

I'm not sure that it uses React Native, but modern add-ins for Office are JS, so any injected modern add-in will be using JS rather than COM/C/C++. This gave add-ins portability between all supported Office platforms, increas

Shouldn't devs be allowed to select what they feel is the "best" choice for a given component? While I wouldn't expect to see a SwiftUI in Windows from Microsoft, Microsoft hasn't been adverse to various NIH web fra

Exactly this. And it is on a portion of the Start menu that can be fully disabled. Heck, my start menu looks like the Windows 10 start menu (yes, this is OOTB) as I wasn't fond of the "new" look of the Windows 11 start menu.

This isn't an NTFS thing. The I/O Manager implements NtLockFile. Applications can request exclusive byte-range write access to a file. And perhaps it is lazy programmers, or defaults, but they generally do. I don't think Micr
