Possibly (I don't know how volatile interact with registers allocation), but the thing is you don't just want this specific example to work, there are a lot of things you want to be able to really ensure , i.e., have rigorous pro

That depends a lot on the hardware. For some embedded systems, such as 8-bit smartcards, you can get pretty detailed datasheets from the manufacturer, and the architecture is a lot simpler than modern CPUs.

The subject of my PhD thesis was formal approach to cryptographic implementation against side-channel attacks [1]. In the lab I worked at, most people wrote assembly code for precisely the reasons discussed here [2], and a part of my work c

If such a device could support Signal and WhatsApp voice call and text messages, it would be awesome. In the meantime it doesn't seem actually usable in the real world. Fun hacking (in the sense of tinkering) device though.

No it's not the same thing as in C. What they try to explain but quite badly phrase is that F# (or OCaml, on which it is based) is lexically scoped, values of non local variables are captured in definitions (so they must exist at that

Why are algebraic data types called "discriminated unions" here? Is there a subtle difference between the two or is it just that F# calls the same feature differently than OCaml?
