I recently rode the Blue Line in Chicago, and found the jumps in acceleration to be quite jarring. Some of that is due to the track, but it felt like the majority could be fixed using a modern motor controller and a bit of math.

Maybe we should spend federal dollars on stainless steel, to reduce maintenance costs.

In theory it's possible to make a carbon-neutral methane rocket based on atmospheric CO2, though that depends on how completely the methane can be burned. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Substitute_natural_gas

The experts pushing PV/wind generally expect fossil methane to remain on the grid, or significant upgrades to long-distance transmission.

> the costs of PV and onshore wind have become cheaper to deploy What about the additional cost of storage/transmission to make those sources available 24/7? Perhaps you've done that analysis and they're still cheaper

You can always identify cheap stainless steel cutlery from the sharp edges that cut into your skin while eating. Presumably the decent ones have extra manufacturing steps to polish off the burrs after stamping.

12V x 100A = 1.2 kW. A typical grid connection for a house is 240V x 200A = 48 kW.

Here's a paper about the batteries they used, but I don't see any mention of temperature testing below 0°C: https://www.jstage.jst.go.jp/article/tjsass/66/6/66_T-22-48/...

Gasoline and diesel have a shelf life of around 12 months. It would make more sense to stockpile propane.

DOSBox Staging has the best CRT emulation I've seen. It's subtle, but it really feels like going back to a VGA monitor. See the screenshots on https://dosbox-staging.github.io/
