I wonder what sort of rate they'll get at Mars distance (400 million km)? Psyche's orbit is beyond Mars, so we're likely to find out if the spacecraft stays operational.

> We would be able to address between 1/3 to 1/2 of all atoms in the universe with IPv6. There are around 10^38 IPv6 addresses and 10^80 atoms in the observable universe. It's not even close.

There are places in the world where a robust continent-spanning grid of renewables could compete with nuclear, but that's also a difficult problem to solve.

It's a single isotope, nickel-63, which decays into regular copper-63. The amount of nickel halves every 96 years. If you throw it in a fire, you'll disperse nickel-63 into the environment, which isn't good, but the decay pr

Fossil fuels are effectively infinite, because we'll hit the temperature cap and end the game before they're depleted. Then we can start the next game, but it's less fun and has fewer players.

Interesting. Then I wonder how the GHG emissions of methalox/kerolox engines actually compare? Methalox emits less CO2, but unburned methane is 30X worse than CO2.

It would probably be a good idea for Starlink in-flight WiFi to provide position information, so pilots could use a phone/laptop as an emergency backup. Starlink is harder to jam than GPS, because the signals are strong and directional

100 GW isn't absurd, compared to global human energy consumption of around 20000 GW. The problem is, until we figure out how to stop burning fossil fuels and fix climate change, the amount of spare power we have is actually a large ne

Raptor (Starship) is closed cycle, and BE-4 (Vulcan) is oxygen rich, so neither should be dumping unburned methane during normal operation.

The exhaust from Starship is just CO₂ and water (CO₂ causes climate change, but that's not a local effect.) Vulcan is dirtier because of the solid rocket boosters.

So you have the option to power an EV with solar+propane in the winter. I'm not sure if propane is cheaper than gasoline, but at least it has bulk home delivery and an indefinite shelf life.
