You can't address them later if you've forgotten where they are. Maybe there is no time "now".

+1 What is this "self-documenting" code and where can you read it?

Heard strange stories about a 30 person company where comments _were disallowed by policy._ I can't even imagine what kind of other problems this place would have.

Let's rewrite this: there is a point to hiding defects... if you are a contractor or looking for a promotion.

Great article. I like "debt comments" though, no point hiding defects really.

Yes, everything works better with intrinsics: - codegen because the compiler spills better than you, and knows what register to save. It knows about register renaming - inlining works better - loop unrolling works better - any kind of hoist

Not if you use a backend like the one in ICC.

And in this particular benchmark, they didn't choose the same compiler backend too. Namely GCC -O2 vs LLVM -O3. This has a large impact, often larger than the frontend language, when measuring programs in native languages.

I define bullshit as using big words and social proof, to present a conceptual theory (split) that might have some merit, but isn't particularly insightful.

Infognition has found that if you keep the D GC heap under 100k the max pauses will be about 1 ms. The means to reduce GC usage have only grown more diverse in recent years: - std.experimental.allocator - @nogc to ensure, well, no GC usage

I have a smallish D game on Steam and trust me, you can absolutely use the D runtime instead of -betterC. -betterC is a work in progress and not representative of D. You will say that you don't want a GC but in reality the GC can be op

I have worked in many C++ codebases and compile-time was a problem _everywhere_, very probably the #1 problem. If you want to replace C++ you need to fix the most important problem. No it's not "safety".

Ability to change ("simplicity") is the key metric that allows to maintain, or further desirable invariant. eg: in b2c "correctness" may be less valued than another trait. Do you prefer to know something or to be able to

Another problem is reliance on "big" frameworks as if those being big and successful would make your particular application successful. No it's just a bunch of code you don't understand and can't fix.
