Here are some things that make C++ better than C - RAII - exceptions - classes and objects - inheritance - templates - the STL C++ is strictly better than C when wielded correctly.

The effort of the Academy to create new words top-down (partly) inspired us to make a parodic website: https://bitoduc.fr/ I think french rappers (which are amazing imho) create more words successfully because they have a m

There is a well-known burnout measurement test from Christina Maslach, who gave an interesting overview of job burnout in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRPBkCW0R5E

I'm 100% with you. There is often a debate in the D community how the defaults could have been better: pure, @safe, const by default, no GC by default etc. But not every bit of code need to be perfect. Code must prove its usefulness fi

For me, it's the interface. It's just really complicated and slow. And I can't communicate with followers without paying. Advertising on FB is not really worth it, in most cases.

Low footprint compared to the competition, Discord is way better than IRC practically so IRC is no competition. I'd better spend that RAM to have features.

I'm precisely speaking about seeing the logs when not connected. The sense of community on IRC is lower because you need to connect all the time and otherwise loose what everyone said.

In on both Discord on IRC but like Discord better. Discord comes with multiple servers (not that easy in IRC, you must have a bouncer), formatting, logs, in an easy package and relatively "low" footpring when compared to the compe

> Simplicity is undervalued quality. Yes, and building a library (a DSL) in an existing powerful language that can do it (and there are many as people said in this thread) for exactly what you need, is _vastly_ simpler than making a new

You talk as if this was an example of a successful strategy of writing a general purpose language for one program. However Jon Blow's successful games, Braid and the Witness, were not written with that new language.

Hence why making a new application-specific, general purpose language is probably not the greatest idea vs building a DSL within one of the languages you mentionned.
591.

But powerful languages of today let you build DSLs within them, so there is hardly a need to write a lexer/parser/semantics for a whole new language.

The problems with visual programming have never changed: at one point you need functions, macros, identifiers, user-defined types, error paths, diffs... (EDIT: it's an idea that doesn't work at all for _general purpose_ programmin

Not all languages are the same, C++ is vastly more complex than many other programming languages (arguably all of them). The only reason to keep learning C++ after years of practice is the sunken cost.

If it is string-based meta-programming you find ugly (as many do as first), consider the alternatives are maybe not much better in practice. https://forum.dlang.org/post/l5srs7$2m3$1@digitalmars.com
