I believe in God. I believe that Jesus will return and take his followers home. If Jesus did not rise from the dead I am to be pitied. If he did rise from the dead, I look forward to meeting him. My beliefs are simple and profound. I am not

I am old sysadmin and understand your motivation. Technical people want to control their environment by having full control of their stack (which the cloud doesn't give you). Those paying the bills see you as the big cost and want to a

As a teacher (former sysadmin) I find that ignorance and aggression often work closely together. I would have seen out the interview and moved on.

For many years I have had a private blog. I like to write but realised 99% of us are not interesting to read. This is a young guy processing his thoughts. Not "teaching" the rest of us as he frames it. This should have stayed in-h

I planned to take a leap 7 years ago and ended up working a 3 day week for the IT firm I worked for and two days on my own tech. 5 years later I left the firm. I didn't plan this approach but it turned out to be a good model. I was ve

It's good to have your own goals. The root of much unhappiness I see on HN is individuals comparing themselves to others. I would just check with yourself that comparison is not at the route of your frustration. Are you beating yoursel

The op is not buying pizza. The cloud model is many, many people paying $30 per month. I think it entirely reasonable to expect some type of support. An email/ticket system at least.

Thanks, Joplin may be just what I was looking for. Trying it now. I wanted the speed of local storage with remote sync. Dropbox Paper slow response times suggests to me a lot is going on remotely.

It's touching listening to a parent who wants to have a better discourse with their daughter. Some caveats about HN. The conversation here can be a little too focused on money, success and being an entrepreneur. My daughter is a simila

At 50 I have realised that life is about balance. Read, walk, cook, go out with family/friends, work. I imagine too much reading or working are the biggest crimes from this list.

I was talking to some old shipyard workers last week, welders. When they were skiving off they used to carry a construction plan with them. They did this as their gaffers, their bosses wouldn't challenge them. The gaffers didn't k

I used to pay a company a £100, I think, and they came in a lorry and they ground the disks in a machine. I enjoyed the fact there was a venerable stick to ram into the machine when the mechanism got blocked. From a security point of view y

HN is well moderated however I am getting bored with questions such as "Why am I not more successful?" "How do I make money fast?" "Tell me your ideas?" (so I can be successful and make money fast)
