Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way. No one remembers when their friends or family tells “we are doing well everything is nice”. Everyone passes on or remembers horror stories.

I see it with new hires in our company. We are small SaaS app. Starry eyed business person thinks he can tell us whatever there is about making websites because our landing page is basically neglected. Business we are in B2B and this speci

I wasn’t that invested in StackOverflow but still I was quite invested there. I do feel kind of sadness right now it is a zombie that current owners are just pumping out whatever is left out of it. I don’t care about GH I felt centralized r

I work on enterprise SaaS applications - people forget about features all the time and make requests for things that are already there. It is more of a bandwidth thing than need of actual new features. When on daily basis you have 10-20 app

Adding slack works over years. Cutting slack gets you quarterly bonuses. When you plan working 3-5 years in a single company you don’t care if it crashes and burns month after you leave just to burn down next one. Conversely we see the same

With AI coding I was able to build three applications I always wanted but never had time to code them. Now it is different in a way — I don’t have time to use them.

Your response seems like you are talking about a single product / single application. You have apps A, B and C (you have N teams and N products) each developed by different teams - that you want to run on that one server, when app A do

I think automatic scaling is useful to utilize server fully - apps that don't need resources automatically scale down, apps that need resources can auto scale up. I bet you can do it in some other way but that's built in feature o

People have it backwards. If you have an app and you want to run a single app yeah silly to look for K8s. If you have a beefy server or two you want to utilize fully and put as many apps on it without clashing dependencies you want to use K

Definitely not if someone frames it "shitty IDE with some plugins". But if someone frames it "engineering talent that knows how to make LLMs even better at software development than competition" it might. I see with my o

In terms of IDE yeah it is not that great. I do have Copilot in VSCode and Cursor. I thought both should be equal in solving problems - turns out Cursor with the same model selected somehow was able to solve tasks that Copilot would get stu

Sounds like we agree. Bunch of stuff is done for us. Using postgres having indexes correct - is not premature optimization, just basic stuff to be covered. Having double loop is quadratic though. Parallelism is super fun because it actually

Second that I wrote the same in my comment somewhere above. LARPing as a FAANG is waste of money and lots of companies doesn’t even need 3 nines let alone 5ve.

If you can restore from snapshot to a new instance on cloud provider having running second copy is waste of money. I know people like FAANG LARPing. Not everyone has budget or need to run four nines with 24/7 and FAANG level traffic.

That’s basically my experience as well. Just upgrading is much easier and cheaper. Of course with latest supply chain failures we don’t update right away or automatically. If it is RCE in a component that is exposed then of course we do it

Still it makes cost of making software higher. You cannot get away with „well no one is going to spend time writing custom exploit to get us” or „just be faster than slowest running away from the bear”.

You missed the point. At some level even if you know basic moves those moves are wrong. Some things are hard to express in code even if you know exactly what you need to achieve and you know all the basic moves like loops and if statements.
