Or you could just use Fortran's C bindings to your language of choice. String support in Fortran is irritating to work with at best.

The assertion that C doesn't support fp16 is just plain wrong. _Float16 is defined in standards committee work. There's also the __fp16 storage-only type widely supported by compilers. The main issue is many compilers have issues

I'd add: 6. Universities are focused on delivering what students (think they) want, not on delivering a good education. I've seen pretty blatant cheating pushed under the rug as it was more effort to pursue it than the course lead
