Great library for scripting, especially in combination with GraalVM and JBang!

While web dev remains a shit show, it's also amazing how much innovation is happening there. Curlwind looks super nice.

What's missing from the article: The innovation heroes will not only leave, they will most likely also burn out.

With Dependabot this takes me less than 10 min a week across 20 repos. Because we have lots of integration tests, we automerge patch updates automatically.

Devs also overestimate the difference their "clean code" actually makes. Architecture is much more important.

I've come to the conclusion that such a library offers little benefit in languages which embrace exceptions. You have to basically wrap everything , making the code hard to read, and without proper ADTs and pattern matching it's

Class composition is about reuse. Class inheritance isn't.

That clearly depends on the context. If you want to win a contract, having a functional prototype to be the deciding edge over your competitors. Here, speed of implementation trumps everything.

Works fine for me. On the other hand I wonder why such a framework needs to be written in Bash itself.

As long as there is string concatenation and SQL libs accept queries as a string there will be SQL injections.

When programming in Groovy, using Groovy maps as config was pretty common, and allowed you to sprinkle a little bit of logic here and there is things got complicated. But it was just Groovy, no special cases, no weird escaping rules.

Exactly! The little Visual Basic I saw was always and entangled, manually tested, spaghetti code mess. Devs were productive only at the start of the project and slowed down to a crawl as things got more complex.

Alternatively you can use JReleaser, which can also automate most of your release: https://jreleaser.org/guide/latest/reference/announce/twitte...

No one has ever said that you shouldn't comment your code. "Comment the how, not the why."

lsd is a drop-in ls replacement, exa is not. And lsd is a whole lot faster, which is also a plus.

You won't regret it. Huge community, great docs, good enough performance, great testability. Integrations for everything. It's boring tech, which is a good thing IMHO.

Is it just me or is Firefox dying a slow death? I haven't seen a single dev use FF in years. Even Edge seems to be more popular these days.

I think GitHub Actions got it right. Mostly declarative workflow, but with reusable Actions to extend the DSL.
