Reminds me of the (absolutely dreadful) series by Tobias Roote where a certain space metal gets alloyed by human blood to produce AI processors a hundred times more powerful. Realistically, superconducting processors would most likely be mu

There's some interesting stuff happening with orgs on mastodon. Vice has a bot that posts their articles, but they've done some trickery where if you copy the link to a post, you get a link to the actual article on their website i

They also don't support USB OTG on the main port, so you can't even use a wired keyboard. They only just recently released a keyboard case that uses the Pogo pins on the side, but it's $200!! There was an abandoned(?) attempt

I would suggest either updating the software or installing KoReader. The most recent official firmware has a much nicer UI, but is incompatible with homebrew at the moment. KoReader is much, much nicer to use, as it's designed specif

Could this do something like take in the contents of my web history for the day and summarize notes on what I've been researching? This is getting very close to my ideal of a personal AI. It's only gonna be a few more years until

Plants don't split oxygen out of CO2, they bind it into carbohydrates along with hydrogen stripped out of water. Oxygen is the waste product of obtaining hydrogen from water.

The writing latency isn't bad at all. It honestly feels like writing on paper with a really good pen. Latency is noticeable if you're actively looking for it, but it doesn't affect writing at all. The quality though isn

Your argument is that any untruth is a lie. Do you consider fiction authors to be liars?

Oh man, I love the Louvre. You could spend days there and not see everything. I spent most of a day there and there were very few people in most of the exhibits, which was really nice. I got to take my time to enjoy the pieces I got to see.

Right. Assuming this paper is true, just knowing that a superconductor with a critical temperature over 100C can exist at all is a huge leap forward. It should lead to a huge push to understand the physics of this new material and building

Christ. Between this and the flat UI update, I might just cancel my subscription and permanently switch to the 2022 versions. I'm rather disappointed with the direction Jetbrains has been taking this year. I've been subscribed to

The USB logo is pretty well pointless. All you're paying for is a license for the logo. Despite USB-IF's efforts to associate that logo with "good" or "safe" or even "compliant" USB devices, I doubt t

Portable MRI would be a huge deal. We'd also see superconducting motors in electric vehicles, along with marked efficiency gains in every part of EV systems. We could have a superconducting power grid with solar panels distributed acro

The synthesis outlined in the paper takes about 90 hours, but basically all of it is just waiting for the material to bake in a furnace. I'd expect some lab out there to report a result by the end of the week. The synthesis really is s

In the paper, they sealed the material in a quartz ampuole under vacuum. I wouldn't call it an easy process, but it's achievable without highly specialized equipment. Just a torch and a vacuum pump.

Hah, I did one of these just last week. There's some sort of silicon bug or incorrect documentation that causes this lithium battery charger to read the charge current at half of what it should be. This could cause the battery to liter

Uh, the Juicero was spectacular hardware. The mechanical engineering in that beast was absolutely beautiful. I don't recall what the software was like, but none of that is why it failed, it was simply a moronic business idea. An over

Why should EEs also be software engineers? These are two distinct specializations. No sane person would expect a programmer to just design a lithium battery charge circuit that goes in your user's pocket, that'd be reckless and
