I'm not involved in this community, but I watched Andrew's interview with JetBrains a few weeks ago and I was really impressed. I don't currently have a project that would benefit from zig, but it's a language I want to

Honestly I also think most vibe-coded projects are just.. kind of bad ideas. Which is fine! It's good to be able to determine an idea is bad quickly, there's value in that, but I think people ignore a really important aspect of cr

I've been using Claude since January, and whenever I run CCUsage I've been noticing the overall cost creep up pretty much every month. (I'm on a subscription so this would be the hypothetical billing if I were on API prices I

None of that changes that it's a statistical prediction machine. This isn't me speculating, it's just literally what it is. You can buy a book on how to implement one (I have one!) The fact that it solved a math problem doesn

Yeah, I've started reaching for local models more. I'll use frontier models at the current cost for tasks that the local ones aren't great at, but when the rug pull inevitably comes, to me they're not worth 1000-2000 a m

This whole you need to "adapt" to LLMs thing is bonkers to me, because there's practically no skill in using an LLM. It took me a weekend to learn how to use a coding harness, and the skill pretty much generalizes to all codi

I think we're finding measures of "productivity" in almost all fields are pretty bad and AI is a great way to game them. PR's, papers, etc. We have to stop looking at volume-of-stuff as a useful metric.

LLMs are statistical prediction machines, they're always going to produce the most "average" code because they reproduce what they're trained on. Average code is bad , and it's going to get a lot worse as people&#x

I think people are making a bad assumption that features = profit, and that we're going to be trapped in a red-queen race to move in place while shipping features at an astonishing rate. I don't think this is going to happen. Befo

Yes, I understand how copyright law works. Disagree with the judge -- googling a book summary worked just as well in the past. "It can write a book report" is not that amazing.

I think this is a flawed analogy. In the past when we had a new way of doing something that obsoleted the old way, it replaced it because it was an obvious improvement. I mean, stop motion is cool, but obviously there are limitations. The

Eh, I don't think Apple is particularly ethical or anything (I very much dislike their app store policies), but if you have to choose between two devils Apple is vastly preferable because they're not after my data or my job.
