I don't get it. Who is asking for another Facebook? Except for a few vocal minority carrying on over privacy and decentralization, none of which will even bother. The rest of the world doesn't care, Facebook is there for them alre

What incentivizes people to report every possible detail of their lives on Twitter and Facebook? You know how I confirm if Instagram is indeed down? You go on Twitter, and everyone breaks out the "I go on Twitter to check if Instagram

Of course you can, but that's not how depreciated assets work in the corporate world. Especially when warranty/support ends after 5 years with companies like Dell.

That's just some silly underspeced nonsense then. I have a PC environment of 5000, and it's definitely in the single digits. PC's are speced appropriately prior to purchase, with a lifetime of 5 years. Sure occasionally users

We did it before Facebook was even a twinkle in Zuckerberg's eye, and it's still a stupid idea. All that happens is the level of conversation goes up, and they suppress it with white noise generators. Dumb.

Why does it have to be electric heat? Natural Gas is doing a good job right now. Let's work on supplying electricity, for things that require electricity first. When we've moved away non renewable energy sources for electricity ge

I can certainly appreciate the work involved here, but I am adding this to my running list as a sign of the apocalypse. I'm assuming this is for people migrating a code base from Mongo to Postgres, but they'll still need to migrat

Otherwise known as feature creep. Start with making one thing better than anyone else has done. You're not going to be another Facebook, they've already have a ten year head start.

That's a massive amount of work though. Is there nothing to come from all of this "machine learning" nonsense talk, putting it to actual good use automating this?

Sounds great, but comments are the first thing I'd prefer just disappear from the internet. I understand that is what brings users, but they are generally cess pools of assholes and spammers.

Mostly that. If you take out all of the "social" aspects of most modern websites. Then they really don't require backend databases and accounts. I've been moving back to more of a minimalist/purist approach.

Anytime I work on a new web project, the first question I ask is how can I make this completely static. Hugo is my first choice to make it happen. It's REALLY nice not worrying about databases / programming environments / use

The vast majority of projects are basic CRUD operations, using relational data. Not something you should ever do in a NoSQL database. That's the problem, people were using it for EVERYTHING. Your use case is very niche.

To anyone reading this this nonsense above. DO NOT USE WINDEX, LYSOL, OR ANY CLEANER ON YOUR DISPLAYS. You WILL ruin it. Use a damp microfiber cloth with water.

That sounds like basic common sense. I'll also add don't use cleaning fluids on your monitor / screen. Microfiber and a light mist of water on the rag is more than sufficient.

I wish Firefox would have a "great suspender" feature. Memory just gets chewed up with a zillion tabs open. They should time out and free up memory. My only option now is just to close, and reopen after a day.
