I never really thought that light rail would replace buses completely. One can't help but imagine how many more buses we would need without light rail, no?

I'm sitting right next to where they've been drilling on Devonshire street for the past 4 months to move a power cable to central station! I've taken busses through Sydney for years, and to be honest, I'm really hoping t

The article says something to that effect: "The Widom-Larsen theory offers a plausible explanation—localized conversion of gamma radiation to infrared radiation."

They'd call that anecdotal evidence. I don't have numbers to back up the original post, but I'm interested in seeing what he comes back with.

I'm very interested in what we can do individually to make this more of recognised issue by the common man. I'll take a look at this essay and if you think of anything else let me know.

I completely agree with this. The research is uncontroversial by now (many studies point to the same conclusion). The trick is maximising those precious 40-50 hours and I think that's where we've gone up and down, backwards and fo

Sounds like a great plan; I'm moving to Brazil for a bit to do the same thing. Not for too long the first time, but with an intention to scope out the place and find some incubators I can hack in; been learning portuguese for the last

Don't really see it being a problem; I don't have a lot of experience with UIKit but Clojure interacts fine with Java UI toolkits like Swing. I've also dabbled with the OpenGL Clojure wrappers and found them easy to use.

I can't help but feel like we continue to just go backwards; Swift doesn't look like they spent much time really thinking about what they wanted to solve and how to solve it. I thought this was an interesting read: http:/&#x

Background has been mostly in C/Java and Scala. Scala for the past 3 years. It's a fantastically complicated language with even its creator Martin Odersky looking to do a major rethink and turn it into something simpler [1]. I nev

I have to disagree with you, but remember this is my own milage. :) C++/C#/Java, less so Ruby, are really all kind of the same, OO languages, 3 statically typed and one not. But basically, they use similar ideas with different syn

Lots of angel investors in Sydney mate, the startup scene here has really grown in the last 2-3 years especially, since we started our startup 3 years ago here. Lot of startup programs you can get involved with, like Startmate, pitch at Syd

Were you using sbt ~compile for incremental compilation? I found a lot of the time spent waiting for compilations could be reduced by not waiting for the JVM to boot.

Interesting, I'm from Sydney and we are seeing a large increase in Scala developers becoming available. Several large companies have been hiring them by the truck load and the local Scala meetup regularly gets 50-80+ people. I too suff
