OP here. While my division was in an investment bank, we were a prop desk that was eventually spun out of the bank, so we did have a "hedge-fund" vibe. I think what you're saying is spot on. The level of manual effort require

More capital is obviously better. But more importantly, what happens when you're not making money? How do you control your anxieties when your broker ac balance halves due to a trend reversing? Are you prepared to monitor your strategy

See response above. I was officially trading (i.e. coding the strategy) for just under 3 years, then got offered a senior non-trading role (but my pay was heavily linked to the desk's performance). Can you make a living? Yes, if you&#x

It's a crowded market, but not necessarily a lucrative one. I worked for a large investment bank, was paid well, but was also rather unhappy. I'm not a fan of office politics and also hated the fact that what we were doing was act

I'm an ex algo trader (currencies and metals) myself, and found this article interesting and mostly accurate. A key takeaway is: "One of the fallacies that people have is the assumption that because the people who are working at c

I find people generally overplay the "all apps must look native on my OS" card as an argument against PWAs. Yet they are often very happy using Google docs for most of their day to day work... I personally like the fact that a web

We built our own framework, but do make use of d3 for charts and jQuery for cross browser events. We modified d3 a bit to make the animations more performant.

I wrote an article on why I think PWAs are the future in my opinion: https://osrec.co.uk/publication/3/Why_PWAs_may_be_the_Future Maybe it'll help you see things from another perspective :)

Apologies - there was a subtle race condition in our code which meant that if you try to log in to the demo at the instant we're resetting our demo's data, you end up using stale demo credentials. This has now been fixed :)

Sorry about that - we have a cron job that resets the demo user data every few hours. Sometimes if you happen to catch it just at the moment we're resetting, a bug in our code means the demo credentials used by the frontend to log in t

I used to work a corporate job in an investment bank with around 30k employees. The majority of those employees were politicking chameleons with little productive output and a disproportionate salary. I used to hope that large innovative te

The web is analogous to an untamed forest. It's got a bit of everything in it, and you can choose which parts of the forest you wish to go to. Don't like app XYZ because it locks up your CPU? Don't visit its URL. If you lik

One of the wonderful things about a PWA is that it is so freeing (no app store gods to appease for approval etc etc). I'm a little afraid that putting PWAs in an app store may actually reduce the flexibility they offer by restricting w

Hmm, not sure I like this idea. I'm a very pro-PWA/webapp sort of person, so anything that restricts flexibility on the webapp side annoys me. Especially given the number native apps that are equally as bloated and virtually never

Not turning out to be a great week for Apple. Even if they do receive a large number of bug reports, I would like to think they have the resources (let's face it, they're not cash-strapped) to resolve something as critical and pri

I sort of agree with you. The web is the wild west, reckless and unrestricted. The app stores are considerably more tame, yet intrinsically restrictive in many ways. Eventually we will tame the web app/PWA ecosystem, while keeping thin

I think it's laughable that you differentiate between the notifications of an app vs the notifications from a web app. Both are opt-in, with web apps being even more explicit about the opt-in process, in my opinion. Also, once you disa

I don't think that's right. Apple are consistently late to the party as far as Safari goes. I mean, they don't even support web push notifications yet, while other browsers have been supporting them for years. It's down
