For anyone interested in using channels and coroutines in PHP, swoole ( https://github.com/swoole/swoole-src ) provides a reasonable implementation!

Really nice! I especially like the way you can append FEN to URLs to create a shareable link.

I actually settled on 2 text markdown files. One for short term and one for long term tasks and notes. I usually have a list pending tasks and a list of done tasks in each file somewhere (usually at the top). Sometimes I include some very d

I've always wondered how much traffic a site receives when on the front page of HN. Would you mind sharing some stats, and your server size? And perhaps what was the breaking point was for your server in terms of traffic? Thanks!

Sending money between accounts is a jittery experience for me. There is almost no confirmation that the money has gone to the right place, and no checks in case of human error. I feel we need an additional per-account verification hash that

Nitpick from the article: it suggests kdb underpins most algorithmic trading systems. This is simply not true. I've worked in a number of banks and hedge funds, and most have their own home-brew storage and analysis engines (I've

I'm going through this currently. It doesn't help that my inspiration for work can sometimes make me work through the night, which 'messes up' the following day. I'm my own boss, so can do this without repercussions

Interesting idea. Btw, the look and feel of the landing page is similar to stripe's. Did you model it on that?

It is a rather dire situation indeed. I saw a documentary on Uber drivers in India, and a few of them had been convinced to take on crippling levels of debt. When demand dropped (and number of Uber drivers increased) this eventually caused

I don't think the content is AI generated, but I know for sure their Brexit articles get a tonne of bots spamming the comments section.

I agree they should drop quora results, but for a different reason. My reason is that the quality of info is ridiculously poor. Most answers read like covert adverts for some app or another. It's got to a point where it's not even

Seems to be common with BBC articles lately. I read their tennis pages often, and it amazes me how often they get the winner of a match wrong! It's almost as if the reviewer has no context when checking through the article.

If you've taken the time to understand things well, you'll do just fine, even with PHP. Otherwise, the quirks of any language/library/tool may catch you out (it's not just a PHP thing).

Well, it sort of is my nightmare. I disagree with hyperbole in general, but politicians being able to easily manipulate truth across vast swathes of society is my idea of a nightmare (a pretty scary one at that).

The "efficiency savings" are probably because they've rejigged their processes to make them cleaner as part of the new initiative - NOT because of blockchain. If you control and trust your data source, blockchain is a really

You do not deserve to be downvoted. As a developer, I wholeheartedly agree with you (anyone remember Safari's super buggy indexed DB implementation?!)

But that's a separate issue, no? The leak issue is all about someone knowing whether you've accessed a resource previously or not (i.e. checking to see if the resource comes for cache or not). For a lib hosted on a CDN, who cares?

I agree with you, for now. But, I can imagine a future where library payloads will increase significantly. In those cases, shared caching will be pretty useful (I'm thinking along the lines of a ffmpeg WASM lib for web based video edi

By default, all existing code would not have the allowcache property, so would load from an isolated cache. Those devs that explicitly care about speed for certain resources, where leaks are not a concern (e.g. loading a lib from a CDN) can

Perhaps a little 'allowcache' property on script tags/images/other resources could be of use here to prevent leaking info? Something like: <script src='jquery.js' allowcache></script> That way

I agree. Most legal docs could probably be better captured in markdown or asciidoc rather than MS Word (and all the bloat it brings with it).
