   Possibly Google Play Services? That's where they stick a lot of this sort of thing, IIRC.

   Because the idea of Xi is that it can support different frontends for different platforms, and that probably wouldn't work out to well if they all had to be in C.

   It's not great that you have to ruin security and install an enterprise cert to do this, but that's just the inevitable result of excessively locked down systems.

   The XDG directories are by default under your home dir only, so you can keep the same backupability properties. Better ones, even, since the files of things supporting it are in one place.

   Given enough civilisations, it's likely that a few will eventually manage to not wipe themselves out (at least for long enough to become fairly redundant).
