Seniority matters here - of course a junior is going to have weaknesses, and a poor fit could easily result in two abysmal quarters. But I believe seniority comes with a responsibility to proactively raise any higher level issues blocking p

There are a lot of negative things that one can imply about America, so I'm surprised that you reached for 'boring'. I don't even know what source to cite, but it seems self-evident that Americans care passionately about

Thank you for trying this, and even more for writing it up. People talk about bad startups that do happen, but not nearly enough about good ones that don’t . We should be at least as outraged at the systems that quietly steal what could

I did the opposite by accident: I was fascinated by older kids when I was young, and they thought I was charming. Then in my 20s most people seemed repetitive, and I had some real social headwinds. I'm trying to recapture some of that

There's also a subtle clinical communication aspect to this. I once had a doctor message me shortly after a routine test and say "I need you to come back tomorrow ", and my pregnant wife was losing it until we could get thro

It all depends on whether you summarize a thread by its best or worst comment. At best, HN is way better. At worst, while hardly 'warm', it rarely ruins my day, which I appreciate.

I didn't see any statements about what will be, just what should be. The sort-of counter-example is that "Tech jobs [..] are increasingly willing to hire with no degree". But strange that he of all people didn't add

I've been successful enough, but glancing at my bank account it doesn't look like i can literally buy 51% of any company I've heard of. Have you done it? Or can you help point me to someone like myself who has? If 'you&

That’s fantastic introspection, but to give another anecdotal piece of data: I spent 6 months stressing about how to keep iterating communication and fit with an underperformer, and he never managed to contribute (I was the second of four m

To provide a third vote: My midsized company barely considers people without degrees, even if they have extensive technical work experience. Example: I had to battle hard to get somebody considered for an entry-level non-technical role, and
