But I don't want to retire! I know that by doing what I love for the rest of my life, I'll have enough to sustain my basic needs. 500k seems excessive. It's simultaneously too much for me to spend efficiently for myself, yet too small for m

It's true, and it's somewhat discouraging. When I was in my last year in college, I applied to various types of companies, in different stages of life, plus a quant fund. In the end, while the salary/potential bonus for the fund was very en

Great observation. That's more true on Reddit and Hacker News than Quora, for instance. I think that's because your title (or any other affiliation with the topic) is prominently displayed next to your name.

Wow, the numbers actually seem pretty conservative to me. This put Bush's stimulus at 200B. The Washington Post and NYT put it much higher (773b) [1]. I'm curious how the public will receive this. [1] http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ez

I think seanmcq is referring to the implication that "getting by" means subsistence wage (of the wife). I don't think it was a sexist statement, but rather the focus is on "getting by." It could've been "getting by on his partner's wage" (i

No one here mentioned the likely reason that the ads were blocked by the ad review system (a combination of ML and people in India or something). I don't know exactly how it works, but I'm pretty sure it is risky for Facebook to allow ads t

Without ads, Facebook would not be able to pay for the investments in various features like messages, video chat, etc. Plus, the goal is to create more relevant, social ads. Nobody is there yet, but that's the goal. The goal isn't to get pe

Why was the direct link posted a few days ago ignored while we choose to promote the Techcrunch article which adds another layer? Personally I would rather try things first-hand than hear about it from TC. What does everyone else think?
