They do have a reputation for taking good care of their customers. I believe that qualifies as "any" reason. Secondly, considering their margins, it's probably the best bang for the buck with their advertising dollars. Tens of thousands

So, let me get this straight, you wrote an app so that your sister-in-law could get set up as the rebound girl for the "perfect" guy?

I sense a slight tinge of guilt in your post where you mention being selfish. Choosing what is right for you is always acceptable. If any of your co-founders cannot release you with love, then it is they who are being selfish. I'm going

Why aren't they taking issue with every USB card reader you can buy for as little as $30?

In defense of said website, I would like to point out that after clicking the IE6ify! button several times, in true IE6 fashion, the button stopped working.

That's a very Windows-centric comment. The cases I am referring to are in regard to non-dominant platforms. Compare OS X, NetWare, Linux to the likes of OS/2, MacOS (8/9), Solaris.

It's not about the karma, it's about people attempting to silence those who simply speak the truth. HN fades one's comments more for each step below 0. I'm not sure how it works, but I assume eventually your posts fade into the background

I'll pony up the $5 but I have to say, Apple sure is ignoring past lessons of the industry. Namely, those with free dev tools have little problem attracting developers.

Poor Google, using up their favors at the DOJ to go after MPEG-LA, when this is a more direct threat to their business, and also more likely to bear fruit in an antitrust probe.

Thanks, I don't keep up on LWN. It seems to me then, that Red Hat has created their own fork of the kernel. Am I overreacting?

I'm unsure what the benefit to Red Hat is in this case. All a competitor need do is become a "customer" by buying a copy of RHEL 6, and then Red Hat is compelled by the GPL to distribute all of their patches to that "customer". Seems like

> Isn't the appeal of Google's app store that it isn't curated? Anyone can sign up and submit anything. If you're a "I like to let anyone install anything in my phone" kind of person, I suppose so.

We're not fighting with customers, we fight with banks, and it's not like it's a daily occurrence. And perhaps it's because we don't sell software. You might want to get that "contempt prior to investigation" thing you have checked out, a

Do get back to us in about 6 months to let us know how your merchant account is performing in regard to chargebacks. In my experience, we never win with our merchant bank, yet almost always win with PayPal.

You might try using a distinctive color for links. I didn't even see them until I read your comment, said "bullshit" under my breath, and went back to look for them. Only then did I notice links are #000 and the text is #555.
