I'd watch for a spike in bandwidth use and connections to Windows or Apple update servers -- at least to start hunting down suspects.

Yes, I've had recruiters who submitted me for jobs based solely on a keyword match on my resume -- for something that was clearly not my main skillset. They would have seen that if they even bothered to look at my resume, at all. Now I us

Perl is just a tool like anything else, and it gives you plenty of rope to hang yourself with. It's a problem with the programmer if they can't use it wisely.

What a surprise, another article that blames the teachers. They are not the problem, the PARENTS are the problem. The parents are the ones who think that the only place to learn is in school, and everywhere else you can play gameboy. The

Companies can't "own" the experience you gain as part of your career, otherwise you'd never be able to leave any job and continue with the same career/skills. The only potential issues would be if the new company is in the exact same indus

Why is this on HN? It's clearly written by some kid who hasn't yet realized that there are people who think differently than he does. He also probably doesn't have a family, a house, or other responsibilities. There are only so many hours

You don't want "rockstar" anybodys. They are hard to deal with and think they are special. You want stable people who are good at what they do but don't think they are god.

Turning the iPhone off is a pain. You have to hold down the button and wait for a while, then select the Power Off button. Turning it back on takes a while too. It's certainly possible that most people don't even know how to do this. Ai

Firefox is far from becoming "more and more irrelevant". Just because you've switched to an alternate browser doesn't mean the rest of the world has. Chrome may be incrementally gaining some share, but it's mostly at the expense of IE. F

Having been on the interviewing end of a number of interviews, I definitely have found that these types of "quiz" questions ARE EFFECTIVE, to a point. The number of people who claim to know something, but actually don't, are astounding. Y

Only the sugary candy of the Internet encourages this, just like in any other venue. One can read crappy magazines or scientific journals. One can read trashy romance novels or literature. One can watch reality TV or in-depth documentari

The article (or at least the headline) frames this politically and that makes the author (or editor) a bad journalist. Everyone is required to pay sales tax for purchases made over the Internet, there's just no way for the states to enforc

There's absolutely nothing in this email saying they stored passwords in "clear text". They could have been stored hashed with an older algorithm. Maybe not the best thing to do, but that's not the same as clear text. If someone obtained

Don't sell yourself short. With knowing a few languages there's no reason why you can't get an entry-level programming job that you can get paid to do. You'll get experience and you'll get paid. Giving it away for free doesn't necessaril

True. While many programmers seem to think they can also do server stuff, as a 15 year veteran "server guy", I can say that I've rarely, if ever, seen a programmer who makes a good server guy. The things you need to focus on are just too

Your post sounds a lot like "I just graduated and I expect to be doing cool stuff and getting paid the big bucks, but I'm in an entry level position doing crap work." The good news is that you've finally reached the summit of the education
