This is a great article. I relate to Jonathan Franzen in his mission to get others to seek out the one-to-one relationship he had with Kraus. I believe this relationship is really what the whole piece is about. In many of his points he is t

Author here. Yeah the syntax looks much better with correct highlighting. I've provided a custom definition for Notepad++ on the repo - and of course there is the definition used on the website too. I'm also a big fan of DSLs and

As an idiom I quite like this form. I often do similar for double iterations: for (int x = 0; x < width; x++) for (int y = 0; y < height; y++) { do_something(x, y); }

This is an excellent explanation. As you say, if we assume that my set of macros are the machinery, then truly my "BRAINFUCK()" macro is Turing complete. Using this distinction between language and machine, how peculiar that a Turing Comple

Yeah using $ was pretty cheeky. I use a few other GCC specific features such as nested functions, which is why I specify that the standard is GNU99 rather than C99. If you have any errors on mac please post a bug report as I don't have a ma

This is correct. "Table" is a datatype which copies the values into the table, while "Dict" is a data type that holds references to the objects. The same semantics hold for "Array" and "List". Although not perfect this was probably the best

That's a lot of questions. I will do my best to answer them but note I am not trying to sell a language here. I'm just a student and wanted to show an interesting project I'd been playing with. The performance implications are much like vta

Well Objective C is a separate language entirely. This is just a library for GNU99 C. Point about name noted, open to suggestions :)

Great article. The lego air plane analogy is very accurate. It is certainly true that maths has lost some of its mysticism in early education but I think perhaps telling students that "maths is a set of abstract made up rules governing an i

If this becomes verified then it is very exciting - give me my hover board. Even if it is entirely impractical in use, the thought that a room temperature superconductor may exist in one form or other is just more evidence that little stops

Ultimately nihilism is non-prescriptive as to how you should behave or feel. Under nihilism you can very easily turn "Why Bother?" into "Why Not?", or "Why do I exist?" into "Why would I not exist?" - because all are meaningless questions.

This is very clever. I've used exported curves from photoshop to generate color correction LUTs, but actually just displaying the LUT in the screenshot, and then using the manipulated result to generate back a new LUT is much more flexible

Fair enough, I agree that it isn't the prettiest or most natural of code but it isn't any "magic" too far beyond convention. Without C++ templates this is the only way to achieve certain things - and is fairly standardized. See va_args for
