Microcenter is probably the closest thing left to that niche now. They have pretty decent 3D printing and DIY electronics sections.

It's viable in the sense that you can just stick a server motherboard inside of a desktop case. It certainly won't be cheap though. This has been done as a commercial product with the Ampere ARM server chips. The base model is abo

Really I think the worst part of driving this monitor with plain displayport is that there's no way to control the brightness, just like the LG 5K.

Back in the day the R32 GT-R had a boost restrictor marked in bright yellow. Removing it gave an extra ~4PSI from the turbos good for about 60 extra HP.

The RP2040 actually has built in 12Mbps USB 1.1, no serial bridge required. But if you do want to use a serial to USB bridge the max baud rate is 921600.

The loophole for years has been not being connected to the internet, they're getting rid of that. Buying LTSC licenses as an individual is not particularly easy or cheap.

There have also been a few projects to boot the ARM version of Windows on various Android phones, no VM involved. None of them really have good enough driver support to use as a daily driver though. For example this one[1] for the Oneplus 6

There have been a few 'magic machines' for developing film over the last few years, but they are not cheap. i.e. the Filmomat[1] costs 4K Euros. There are also some simpler products that just make the process a little easier, like

There are a lot of C compilers out there, and many of them have not implemented all of C99. Microsoft started to add C99 features in MSVC2013 and still doesn't support the whole spec. The C compilers supplied by microcontroller vendo

You can install an extension (i.e. dash to dock) to make the launcher ever-present on whichever side of the screen you want. The main downside is that the extensions always break on GNOME upgrades and take a little while to get fixed.
