IRC works extremely well and has the best clients of any chat protocol. I also use XMPP and Matrix, but they always feel rough by comparison and have issues. Crashing, message delays, no good way to look through logs locally and quickly, et

Are there any numbers on the difference in cooling? Is it significant? I don't generally want a laptop that large, but I have also had many laptops that run too hot in the past.

Increased popularity of WFH probably helps a bit. You can order groceries to your house pretty easily as well.

I posted another comment on this, but I never found this to be an issue when using dvorak or workman. Just as I slowly relearned to type the letters at all and improved over time, I kept using vim and got used to hjkl being moved over time.

Very minor issue, speaking as someone who switched to dvorak and then workman while continuing to use vim daily. No keys remapped. It's just not even an issue. Those letters still make those movements. They're in different spots,

The PinePhone is a thing, can run postmarketOS, Arch, Ubuntu Touch, etc. It's still pretty rough, however.

You had me at "Ultrawide monitors are overrated" and lost me at "TV". Ultrawides are indeed a forced meme, and they take away height unnecessarily, but I've always heard TV panels were not as good as monitor panels,

dynamic = automatic layout as opposed to manual like in i3 tag-based = instead of separate workspaces, you have tags, which let you do things like have the same window stored in multiple spots, so you can have a firefox + terminal tag and t

Agreed, the motherboard is what the computer really is. Maybe if I knew more about ship(building) I would have a similar opinion on the Ship of Theseus.

The name is unfortunate, and I hate to see Discord pushed in the readme, but I otherwise am supportive of this. Looks nice. I should also add that it's a little sad when free software is made for use with something proprietary (Windows

IRC channels are what I consider the main support for the vast majority of free software projects. What else would there be? A forum or something? There's the manual and the mailing lists. If you meet users of Guix out in the wild you

No one could/did acquire the Fediverse, there's just a protocol in common between pleroma/mastodon/misskey and so on. The thread's topic is likely similar, Matrix being another protocol used by many things.

Non-programmer here. I love editing in vim and emacs. I hate reading these cookie cutter arguments that supposedly all this stuff is a lot of work or hard to learn. It's much easier than programming is.

There is a #nonguix IRC channel on the same network (as well as a Guix Channel containing packages), and you have the option to install regular Linux instead of Linux-libre. I am lucky to not need to do any of this, but the option is there,
