I would happily give up gasoline, meat, etc. to live significantly longer. I think if everyone had to give it up, we'd see an even bigger push for good alternatives as well.

A mechanical keyboard is a decent project to learn on. I built a Pinky4 kit when I was starting out, since you can't easily buy a keyboard like it already assembled. (Ergodox/Moonlander have bad thumb clusters)

The Pinecil was the first iron I really used extensively and I think it's fine for a beginner. Plug it in, press plus, it heats up. Press plus more if you want to set it hotter, minus to go back down after pressing plus. It can use any

This reminds me of Pine64 not letting you order things with a battery at the same time as things without, but it will all go into your cart and just show up like they don't ship to your country or something. Insane to me they never fix

Why not tap or burst instead of spraying then? "click heads", as they say.

`locate` doesn't seem to be on everything, unlike `find`. Same with `adduser` vs `useradd`. Both were a rude awakening to me later on as I hadn't learned the hard/common versions.

You might like Guix System or NixOS for their concept of "generations" and easy rollbacks. It's pretty hard to break your system majorly. At worst you roll back and then figure out what broke (when you feel like it), and then

Hardware whitelist removal on laptops. I think you can also put a small alpine image in your flash to boot from.

The GameCube is pretty sweet these days with PicoBoot + SD2SP2 + Swiss. Don't forget the Game Boy Player either. If you get a DOL-001 model (has the digital video port) you can also very easily get a good image out of it with an extern

Asahi is based on Arch already, it's been about the only thing you can run until recently. But maybe you're dissatisfied with how well things work at this point.

The Samsung Chromebook Plus came out years ago and is ARM. There's also the ASUS C201 which is ARM and has Libreboot support.

The keyboard looks potentially decent to me, as a user of a columnar stagger split keyboard. The keys might be spaced out too much, though. Also the sort of wide V shape may not be totally ideal. I also like the idea of putting the keyboard

In my experience, changing swappiness makes everything worse and you end up back with the default value in the end.

I know people hate naming discussion, but we already have the dolphin emulator as well as KDE's dolphin file manager, both free software (and thus "open"), so a bit confusing. I also saw some Mastodon discussion further down,

In my school days I was able to add FLAC support to an iPod Touch 4th gen with a quick Cydia module(?) download. I'm skeptical of your claim that macOS doesn't support FLAC. I'm sure mpv and other programs can play it fine. D
