BTC enthusiasts have very creative arguments for why their currency isn’t the a complete disaster for the climate. Like pointing fingers.

Is it just a coincidence that the HTTP code for “not found” became the same as the code name for this city?

Is this distinct as in it branched super early from other earth life and died out? Or distinct as in maybe came from another planet and is completely distinct? Can we tell? The journal is astrobiology.

I don't read "specific issues" so much as generalized complaints and implied insults. "Low effort" is not a specific issue - it's just derogatory. "Cut the clutter" is not useful advice. All of it

In the new world, increasingly you’ll be better off writing your libraries from scratch than pulling in external dependencies. Less supply chain risk. Less bloat from features you don’t need. Sure complex mature libraries aren’t going away.

This attitude is of course very common and I just don’t understand it. Like when I read news from the other political party - it’s just confusing to me. Are they scared for their jobs? Angry that their hard earned skills are getting devalue

Most systems I’ve worked with can go completely offline without ever logging a critical error. Some coding errors or misconfiguration or failure in a critical system - enough to log an error - and nobody can get any useful work done. I’ve

At scale the rare events start to happen reliably. Hardware failures almost certainly cause ERROR conditions. Network glitches. Our production system pages oncall for any errors. At night it will only wake somebody up for a whole bunch of e

It’s amazing and wonderful to see the Internet support these tiny cliques of interest. Having everybody connected leads to homogenization of culture in some ways, but it also supports these couple dozen (?) people around the world finding e

Using a compiler will also make you much worse at writing assembly code. Doesn’t bother me at all. Haven’t written any assembly since the 20th century.

Apple always charges a huge premium for RAM. Maybe it’s enough to buffer their pricing scheme from the supply shock. I have run the numbers though.

Agree an explicit block list is not very robust. I imagine the vast majority of legit ML models use only a very limited set of math functions and basically no system interaction. Would be good to fingerprint a big set of assumed-safe models

Thanks for starting to address the gap. When would this tool be best used? As a post commit hook? In the CI/CD chain? At runtime?

Nit:The word “orthogonal” should not mean merely “different”. It should mean “completely unrelated” if we are drawing a proper analogy from linear algebra. Orthogonal vectors have a dot product of zero. No correlation whatsoever. As ML and

That’s a solid idea. Never heard that before. And it really seems like it would solve an otherwise extremely difficult problem. It would not discriminate though. Everything in that orbit would be taken down - debris and any functional satel

Pretty sure the answer is "No" - Intel is still pretty far behind TSMC on the high-end. But the old metric of "transistor size" measured in nanometers isn't a good indicator any more. The marketing numbers don

This is in response to JetBlue flight 1230 from Cancun to Newark on October 30, 2025, where a cosmic ray of some kind flipped a bit and caused a dangerous situation. At the time there was a minor (G1) geomagnetic storm - meaning more cosmi

Politics in the US is so extremely binarized these days that I think it’s hard to assign motive for political issues beyond “my friends say that our team feels this way.” Which I would argue is much more political than anything fundamental.
