It was my idea to go there and Segway it up. We chose the U of I for reasons other than the weather, and being from the south it just didn't occur to me that cold + Segway riding = really really cold.

In 2008 I had just founded a textbook-selling website, and one of the first schools we went to was University of Illinois- Urbana/Champaigne. We had a genius marketing idea: rent a Segway and ride it around campus handing out fake dollar bi

It sounds like you want to get in early on a startup, and if you're not a developer the only guaranteed way is to be a founder. If you can handle the risks, being a founder coincidentally also has benefit of increased responsibility, greate

As a response to angel investing being a "bank strategy", it seems obvious to me that most of the benefit of participating goes to the founders. YCombinator gets 6%? That is peanuts compared the benefits you already know about, hardly explo

There was a recent quote from Zuckerberg to the effect of: "We know this but people don't want to create lists." True. But I think there's too much emphasis on that last "s" in "lists". I really just want two lists. One list of acquaintance

With Facebook, the way it would work is that you have to have 20+ friends to join. So you can create throwaway accounts, but you won't be able to login with them. That said, it really would be going out of your way to create a throwaway acc

This is a good point. We are in fact doing a "hard launch" as a result of the need for a critical mass of users. Its a videochat website, and if noone is there then you'll just leave. As I mentioned in another comment I made just before thi

This comment, like many others, is pretty critical of using FB Connect exclusively, which is something I understand and why I posed the question in the first place. It may help to provide a little more context. The reason that FB Connect is

True. For one, most people in our target age demographic (say 16 - 34) do have FB accounts. The other assumption is that if you don't have a FB account, you're less likely to want to talk with strangers over videochat.

I understand where you're coming from, but it also sounds like you share some common misperceptions about FB Connect. For one, before you login with FB Connect, it tells you exactly what the application is requesting your permission to do.

I'm curious what your rationale for this is. Assume that from the landing page you can be confident that none of your personal information will be shared and that the application will never post anything to your wall, etc. What's the worry?

I stand corrected ;) But Google is different than poker sites, just imagine the uproar. Just for gathering data for maps they've gotten in a ton of trouble.

I highly recommend BlueHost if you plan on buying multiple domains. Its $10/domain, and for ~$60/year you can host unlimited domains there. It comes with SimpleScripts, which makes it a cinch to install wordpress, which is fine for putting

I don't give a shit what Google knows about me. Its like the big poker websites. If they get caught cheating, then EVERYONE will jump ship and they will die. Google is (I think) too smart to truly violate my privacy, nevermind ads targeted

Facebook doesn't make it easy though. With 1000+ friends, I'd rather not sit down for 12 hours and try to categorize them. Surely they can atleast guess for me (based on who I share friends with, when we became friends, whether we went to s

We're about to launch, so just about time to throw off the cloak anyways. Its a videochat website, which if I described you'd immediately compare to Chatroulette. If we don't achieve critical mass early, everyone will leave. To a degree it

A lot of the other comments are spot on. Namely hire selectively, treat it as you would any relationship, be clear in your instructions and get a sample of each task before having them spend 10 hours doing the wrong thing. A lot depends on
