I meant this as "No GPU cyrpto mining bubble as no gpu mining takes place". Bitcoin and Litecoin are not mined with GPUs anymore. I was under the impression that no one bought GPUs for mining anymore in general, as it's a was

During the crypto bubble the miners often used regular gpus, sometimes with firmware modification for undervolting that were easily reversible. But we are not in a crypto bubble now, I'm not sure where gp is coming from with that comm

I don't understand how we're multiple years into a GPU shortage from both vendors. Why multiple years? It's unlikely the current shortage will take that long, and it only started at the end of last year. In Summer 2020 buyi

NoiseTorch is the one I use on my Pulseaudio-enabled laptop, https://github.com/lawl/NoiseTorch . It has a GUI and is very easy to install, seems to work well. Significant cpu usage when active, so I only load it when i

Excellent. I'm testing this right now and am noticing that some more info about the installation could be helpful. Specifically, when installing rnnoise as shown in the readme it of course goes to /usr/local/lib, but &#

Hey, thanks for building this! There are multiple options like this for Pulseaudio, but last I researched it nothing for pure ALSA. On a system without Pulseaudio this is obviously better, great to have. The pulseaudio plugins like noisetor

Linux usually works perfectly fine with old hardware, a Intel Core2 Duo should be completely enough. That's even 64 bit hardware. Worst case you have to swap out Gnome with something more minimal, but that's unlikely.

We see that happening all the times with devices that are open and popular enough, as much as is possible now. Have a look at the xda forum to see how it is done today.

They do not need to pay more. The equation that repairable means more expensive for the customer is propaganda. It assumes that every cent companies save by making devices worse lowers the price. That's trickle down economics and has

Sometimes it's more a question of software. On older phones badly made sites like the new reddit for example were unuseable in all browsers - until the new Firefox came along. But sure. Repairability is one thing, it just means that de

Right. Repairable hardware is just the one side, security updates needs to be available as well. We need mandated open sourcing of device software (including firmware and drivers + unlocking of the bootloader) after the support timerange, o

They already are. Phones from 2016 for example feel completely usable today. That goes for the repairable ones at least, like the LG G5, but even the older LG G3 holds up well. If all modern phones were as repairable as those we could elimi

Afaik it's just not a thing in europe. Only high end models have it, and even then it's an optional feature that costs extra. Even in a kitchen I rented where just the sink faucet did cost 1000€ the self-cleaning module of the ove

Has been a few years, but War and Peace takes indeed one extreme position in that debate. That's in the whole book, including the chaos of the battles. It's a great perspective, thanks for citing it here.

A good example for your point would be McCarthyism. The idea of a more ideal free speech society we had in the past is probably naive, and that's likely true in the US and elsewhere. I doubt that this is a technical issue. Sure, the in
