I disagree. Designers are not dumb and understand tools and UX pretty well. There is a reason why it became so popular. I would like to know about design tools that are so much better than Figma. I am trying to actively avoid it because it’

Well the problem with Adobe is that some of the really crucial tools are essentialy abandoned. InDesing for example is used for every printed book, magazine, packaging, poster… ever. Industry standard with insane amount of users. Yet InDesi

One main difference is performance. Penpot becomes unusuably laggy in some situations (like when you use raster images). Penpot made bet on .svg rendered directly using browsers. They thought these engines will become fast enough. Figma ren

At least in some circles yes. It is very much only sync service creative professionals use. Mainly due to conflict resolution, corruption and version history. It still has best implemented “online only files”. Think 10 person design studio

It is not. Utility all classes have basic specificity of 0-1-0. There is no cascade just order of classes that all have same specificity.

Atleast in Tailwind that’s what it should do. You hover over card (.group) and some elements inside change.

Isn’t it funny that in a thread about how Tailwind is bad and people should learn real css… people also think css selectors require JS?

Dont’t forget Tailwind is popular because people can copy paste chunks of HTML. Selling premade HTML is how Tailwind is funded. It is also pretty good configurable utility framework but that is secondary and new version 4 is worse at custom

Tailwind goes into crazy extreme so people can copy paste whole complex components and they work. That’s why you can dunk on these verbose examples. This is not how custom functional css codebase looks. In custom projects you change the sy

You can’t use inline css it’s not at all the same. Inline css 1. Can’t use media queries (responsive design). 2. Gets you to specificity hell - you loose ability to cascade. 3. Does not follow any system or reuse of values. 4. Values can’t

One important detail is that fonts themselves have their own hinting rendering tables so authors can decide how fonts will be rendered on low dpi screens. This is tedious and expensive. And you guessed it many libre fonts simply dont do it

I think the tricky part is that Tailwind (and other functional css frameworks) are loved by 1. complete noobs who dont know css and 2. absolute killer css devs in agencies making content sites. Most devs on this website work on aplications
